About The Healthy Eye Doc
Biography
I am passionate about holistic health care, wellness, and disease prevention. My mantra is “Nourish, See, Thrive!” and my mission is to empower patients to achieve their most optimal and vibrant life by preserving their most valuable asset—their sight—through nutrition and lifestyle modifications.
I completed my Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Guelph with a focus in Biological Sciences and Nutritional & Nutraceutical Sciences. I also obtained a Master of International Public Health at the University of Queensland in Australia. After returning to Canada, I worked in contact lens research at the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE), and have published several peer-reviewed journal articles from my research work.
I completed my Doctor of Optometry degree on the Dean’s Honours List at the University of Waterloo, and was awarded the Alcon Scholarship for Research in Contact Lens Care. My optometric training included a 4-month externship at Houston Eye Associates where I worked alongside specialist ophthalmologists and gained experience in treating a variety of ocular diseases.
I am committed to improving equitable access to eye care, and reducing preventable vision loss. I have volunteered in providing compassionate eye care in Peru (VOSH), Fiji (MMI), Mexico (OneSight), and Toronto (Mes Amis & St. Michael’s Hospital).
I am a member of the Ocular Wellness & Nutrition Society, Ontario Association of Optometrists, and Canadian Association of Optometrists.
My Approach
Nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness are the cornerstones to my approach.
I believe in treating the whole individual because our eye health and whole-body health are intimately connected. Nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental factors can have profound impacts on ocular health and vision.
The majority of vision loss is preventable, and my mission is to help others to achieve their optimal clarity of vision by taking measures to reduce the risk of developing eye conditions that lead to vision loss.
I believe in addressing systemic factors to improve equitable access to health care, healthy food, and a good life.
